On a Brighter Note is a weekly syndicated newspaper column that is designed to shine light on the everyday.

Lori Welbourne, a freelance writer and married mother of two writes about her life and the typical everyday things that just about anyone can relate to.  Writing every story from a positive perspective, Lori’s readers have appreciated her consistent departure from the typical doom and gloom often found in newspapers.

With her column now running in papers across BC and an online readership that extends beyond Canada, Lori loves hearing from readers from all over and has been inspired for future stories from many of these communications.

Despite her intent to reach an audience far beyond the Okanagan, Lori is committed to giving back to her community. Most recently she learned to dance and performed in a local celebrity ballroom fundraiser for Hospice called Swinging with the Stars; she served on the committee for the Leading Ladies of Canada fundraiser to benefit the Women’s Shelter and the Women’s Enterprise Centre; she was a past director on the Westbank Chamber of Commerce; she was the host and organizer of two public political forums; she acted as a scrutineer in the Federal election; and she just finished four years as past chairperson and executive director of the Okanagan Business Excellence group.

I have always believed that the best way to succeed is to help others  succeed and that is what the OBE is all about. I have been a member of this group since September, 2005 and I love it more as every year goes by. Being a member of the OBE has opened doors and created opportunities in a remarkable way, and the relationships with fellow members have been some of the closest and most meaningful friendships I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.  It is easy to refer business to my fellow members because I know they are people of integrity and those I’m referring will be well taken care of.
